International Cricket Council (ICC)

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the governing body of cricket. ICC was formed on 15th June 1909 and has its headquarter in Dubai, UAE. ICC was founded as the 'Imperial Cricket Conference' in 1909 by representatives from England, Australia and South Africa. Later on in 1989 the ICC renamed itself as  'International Cricket Council'.

History of ICC


On June 15, 1909 representatives from England, Australia and South Africa met at Lord's and founded the Imperial Cricket Conference. The headquarter of ICC was in London from 1909 to 2005. In 1926 West Indies,New Zealand and India were elected as full members of ICC. After that other countries were admitted like Pakistan in 1952 Sri Lanka in 1981 Zimbabwe in 1992 and Bangladesh in 2000. Ireland and Afghanistan in 2017 were recently added to the full-time list of members in ICC.

There are a total of 108 member countries of the International Cricket Council (ICC) including 12 Full Members and 96 Associate Members. 


Full-Time Members : There are 12 governing bodies of the team that have full voting rights within the International Cricket Council and play Official Test Match.


Associate Members : associate members are those countries where cricket is established and well organised but do not qualify for full membership. There are 96 associate member countries.

ICC Awards 

The International Cricket Council (ICC) gave the ICC awards to recognise and honour the best International Cricketer as of the previous 12 months.  The ICC award ceremony was started in 2004 in London. In 2020, ICC has announced a special award 'ICC Award of the Decade' to honour the best performance in the last ten years.  The ICC gives awards in many different categories to both mens and women's cricketers. ICC ODI World Cup - 


The ICC Men's Cricket World Cup is the International Championship of ODI cricket which is played every four years and it is organised by ICC. The first men's cricket world cup was organised in England in June 1975. England are the current World Cup Champions after winning the 2019 World Cup. The next world cup tournament will be held in 2023 in India.

ICC T20 World Cup -


The ICC Men's T20 World Cup is the international championship of T20 cricket. The tournament consists of 16 teams and is held every two years. India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. The 2020 edition of the tournament was not held due to Covid-19 pandemic. So the tournament was postponed to 2021 in UAE. Australia is the defending champions after winning the 2021 T20 world cup in UAE. The 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup is going on in Australia starting from October 16 and the Final to be played on November 13.

The ICC World test Championship is a league competitive for Test cricket. It is organised by ICC which starts in 2019. The championship was first proposed in 2009 but the first tournament began with the 2019 Ashes series. The inaugural World Test Championship Final was played between India and New Zealand at Rose Bowl, Southampton, England. New Zealand is the defending champion of ICC World Test Championship.
